Following twin suicide bombings by Wahhabis-allied Deobandi terrorists of the proscribed ASWJ-allied faction of Deobandis’ Taliban on churches in Lahore’s Youhanabad area, two separate cases were registered on Monday pertaining to the incident.

Lahore police on Monday registered two cases — under Section 302, 109 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) — of the blasts at the Nishtar Colony police station. The cases were filed on the complaint of Father Francis Gulzar and Father Irshad.

SSP Investigations Rana Ayyaz Saleem said that police high-ups were holding consultation over the registration of a case over the lynching of two suspects by enraged Christian protesters.

Repercussions of the attacks are being felt across the country with schools closing down and protests being conducted across various cities.

Two Deobandi Taliban’s JA group’s suicide bombers attacked churches on Sunday, claiming lives of fourteen people and leaving more than 70 injured. The bombings occurred during prayers at both churches in the city’s Youhanabad neighbourhood, which is home to more than 100,000 Christians.

Up to 4,000 Christians later took to the streets of Lahore, many armed with clubs, and smashed vehicles and attacked a city bus station.

Protests continued on Monday (today) and have spread across Punjab and now Sindh as people took to the streets to express their anger at the incident. The identity of the lynched person has not yet been revealed.

On Faislabad’s Millat Road, residents are chanting slogans against the government and have resorted to tyre burning. The metro services in Lahore have also been suspended until further notice.

According to sources in the Inter-Services Public Relations, security has been beefed up in the area and protests have commenced in Sindh. Ball bearings from the blast have now been gathered and will be DNA tested in forensic laboratories.
