At least 2 policemen embraced martyrdom and many wounded due to a huge blast near the vehicle of Special Security Unit (SSU) in Karachi’s Quaidabad area on Friday. Taliban that is abetted by proscribed ASWJ-LeJ aka Sipah-e-Sahaba, claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.

A roadside bomb struck a bus carrying police officers in the port city of Karachi, wounding 10 people, police officer Mohammad Ali said. The attack took place while the bus traveled through city’s residential area of Quaid-e-Abad.

Authorities suspect the bomb was attached to a motorcycle and detonated remotely, Ali said. Some of the bombing victims were hospitalized in critical condition.

“Two policemen were killed and 14 other people including two civilians were injured when a bomb planted on a motorbike was blown up as a police van was passing by,” police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo said. The elite squad that guards VIPs was on the way to guard Bilawal House, the residence of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

A bomb disposal squad also swept the neighbourhood for other explosives.
The SSU was recently handed over the security of city’s sensitive areas following two blasts which killed five people including two personnel of the law enforcement agencies.

Security forces have been suffering reprisal attacks in return cracking down on criminal and militant activities since late 2013 and Deobandi takfiri terrorists and fanatics pose gravest threat to Pakistani civilians and security officials alike.
