Administrative negligence of Air force costed the life of a competent Shia Air Chief Marshal

Subsidiary committee of Public Accounts Committee has been told that the 2003 plane crash that took lives of 11 officials including the Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Meer had completed its lifespan. However, PAF officials told the subsidiary committee that the incident took place because of bad weather and negligence of the pilot.

Key Audit Report of 1990-97 tells that the Fokker F-27 that crashed near Kohat on 20th February 2003, was given to air force in 1994. Audit officials tell that the plane was purchased by Maritime security in eighty million and 30 lacs.

According to the audit report, the Fokker was earlier presented for sale to Navy and PIA but both denied purchasing it.

An air commodore told the subsidiary committee that PAF purchased refurbished planes during 1999-2000 and made them capable of flying. That Fokker plane was also one of those.

Convener of the subsidiary committee and the member of National Assembly Rana Afzal Hussain said that decision resulted in the death of an Air Chief and other officers.
