Arrested Professor of Punjab University was the chief of banned Hizb ut Tahrir

Shiite News: CTD of Punjab Police had arrested Punjab University’s Associate Professor on Monday during a raid on his house in Allama Iqbal Town, an area of Lahore city, allegedly for having ties with Hizb ut Tahrir.

Sources told that CTD and secret agencies have been directed not to allow Hizb ut Tahrir to continue its activities. It should be remembered that CTD had also arrested Hizb ut Tahrir’s Karachi chief, last month, who was working as Deputy General Manager in K-Electric.

Professor Ghalib Ata joined Punjab University in 1990s as a Lecturer. He completed his PhD in Management Sciences in 2007. A colleague of Professor Ghalib told that Professor Ghalib was clean-shaven when he joined the university but few years ago, the liberal Professor started growing beard, joined a religious organization and started preaching tours. He further told that Professor Ata used to criticize democratic system of the country and favored the establishment of Caliphate that made his colleagues and students worried. He also told that everyone was aware that Professor Atta had joined the banned organization.

Professor Ata was arrested on reports of sending Hizb ut Tahrir literature to his colleagues in order to persuade them for joining the organization. A former student of Professor Ata told that the Professor had tried to do his brain washing.

Another former student of the department told that the Professor used to talk against democracy and tried to stop him from casting vote by labeling the act as un-Islamic and also tried to influence him for joining the organization.

It should also be remembered that secret agencies had arrested a member of Al-Qaeda from Punjab University in September 2013.

Spokesperson of Punjab University supported the secret agencies’ action of arresting the Professor said that the University would not interfere in the matter. He further told that the University administration had issued a notice after the APS attack in Peshawar that banned inviting any conflicting person in any of the university’s programs and seminars.
