Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday expressed his concern over the rising incidents of sectarian killings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed his party-led provincial government to check the activities of banned organisations in the province.

He said this during his visit to a hunger strike camp set up by members of Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) outside the National Press Club.

The PTI chief said increase in the targeted killing of Shias in the KP was disturbing.

He said the KP government would make a mechanism to check the activities of banned organisations in the province, especially in D.I. Khan.

Mr Khan assured the hunger strikers that the provincial government would extend all-out support to the MWM and would take necessary measures for ending targeted killings in the province.

MWM chief Allama Nasir Abbas thanked Imran Khan for visiting the camp, but made it clear that his party would not end its protest until promises were fulfilled.

He said members of Shia community were facing a number of problems in Punjab. He condemned killing of four Shia residents in Parachinar by security forces.

The PTI chief said the KP chief minister and members of his cabinet would hold a meeting with MWM leaders and would take up their suggestions at a meeting of the province’s Apex Committee.

He said KP Senior Minister Shah Farman would be the focal person to redress MWM’s complaints, especially those related to sectarian killings.

The PTI chief condemned killing of people on the basis of their faith, adding that everyone had a right to follow his/her religion.

He said representatives of the KP government would visit relatives of those who lost their lives in sectarian attacks in D.I. Khan.

A large number of people from different walks of life, including members of civil society, clerics belonging to different sects and representatives of the PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party, visited the hunger strike camp.

Earlier, a delegation of Sikh leaders belonging to Hasanabdal also visited the camp.
