Five 'militants' killed in Quetta encounter with police

Police claimed to have killed five suspected militants in Chashma Achozai area in an encounter here late on Monday.

The armed men opened fire at a patrolling police van in Chashma Achozai. Police personnel retaliated and five suspected militants were killed during the exchange of fire.

Earlier on Sunday, militants ambushed a police party in the same area and left two policemen injured.

Personnel of other security agencies also reached the site to assist policemen battling against the militants, belonging to a banned militant outfit, a police official who was not publicly authorised to speak to media, told on condition of anonymity.

He said one policeman was injured during the exchange of fire with militants. The injured policeman was rushed to the Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment.

The situation was tense in the area in the aftermath of the encounter and people remained confined to their houses, he said.

He also claimed that the killed militants were involved in acts of targeted killings and kidnappings in the area.
