Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar, in a press conference from Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Tuesday, denounced his party leaders speech claiming that MQM from hereon will operate from Pakistan alone and anti-Pakistan sentiment will not be tolerated from MQM's platform anymore.

He accepted that "there is a problem", refering to his leaders speech the other day with anti-Pakistan slogans, as his apology later professed to be under immense mental stress.

Sattar said: "If such statements are a result of mental stress, then that mental stress needs to be resolved first. It would be better for MQM to operate from Pakistan until Altaf Hussain's health issues are not resolved, as such statements push MQM into confinement."

“Altaf Hussain and the entire party are being ridiculed due to these statements", he added.

"We own that there is a problem, and Altaf Hussain keeps asking for forgiveness. Until this issue is addressed, we've decided that sanity should prevail," Sattar said.

Sattar urged his workers to distant himself from his patrons speech, "Every MQM worker, leader, voter and well-wisher denounces these anti-Pakistan slogans. We will not allow this to happen again."

Earlier today, Sattar was released from Rangers custody after an overnight detention. Sattar was detained along with nine other MQM leaders on Monday night at KPC after party workers attacked media houses following Altaf Hussain’s inflammatory speech. At least one person was killed and over half a dozen injured as MQM workers and police clashed.

After the rioting, the Rangers detained at least nine senior leaders of the party including MNA Farooq Sattar, MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan, MPA Sajid Ahmed, Amir Khan, Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, Waseem Ahmed, Qamar Mansoor, Kanwar Naveed and Shahid Pasha.

Sattar and Hassan were taken away by the Rangers from outside the Karachi Press Club where they wanted to address a news conference. Hassan, though, was reportedly released later.

Shortly after their rioting, MQM member Irum Azeem Farooqui tweeted that she had resigned from the party in protest.
