Whereabouts of four Shia scholars belonging to Punjab were not known since their arrival from Mashhad (Iran) where they were staying for higher studies. Since many months, they have neither been produced in any court of law nor were their heirs apprised of charges against them.

Among these four Shia scholars, two namely Maulana Saqlain Naqvi of Jund (Attock) and Syed Zeeshan Gilani of Mehmood Kot of Muzaffar Garh are the followers of seminaries and scholars of Federation of Shia Religious Seminaries (Shia Wefaqul Madaris).

Maulana Syed Imran Sajjad of Chakwal hail from Shia Ulema Council and Maulana Aqeel Hussain Khan is the head of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Mashhad chapter.
Saqlain Naqvi and Syed Zeeshan Gilani were taken into illegal custody three months ago. Syed Imran Sajjad was kidnapped four months ago and Maulana Aqeel Hussain Khan was abducted more than a month ago.

Pakistani Shia Muslims have urged the Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the country and chief minister of Punjab to clarify their positions on the illegal detention of these respectable Shia clerics without allowing them their Constitutional right to know charges against them and defend them through lawyers. Shia Muslims have asked all the relevant authorities to rein in the rogue elements of the security agencies because after all they too are accountable to law. There is no law that denies the right of heirs to know the whereabouts of their illegally detained relatives. There is not law that denies them their legal right to defend them. There is no law that allows security agencies to detain any accused without producing them in the Court of law and without having permission from the Court. They said the security officials are not judge to pronounce verdict and punish anyone at will.
