Hammad Naqvi accused in Azam Tariq case released

Breaking_News_72Hammad Riaz Naqvi accused in Banned Terrorist outfit Chief Azam Tariq murder case on Tuesday acquitted owing to the lack of evidences.According to the Shiite News Correspondent,  An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Tuesday a man of his involvement in the killing of outlawed terrorists outfit Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan leader Maulana Azam Tariq in October 2003.

ATC-II Special Judge Raja Ikhlaq Hussain gave Hammad Raza Naqvi the benefit of doubt saying the prosecution has failed to prove the case. Naqvi was accused of firing on the Maulana at a toll plaza in the Golra area. He was arrested in Karachi and was brought to Islamabad in February last year.

The court had on March 20 last year acquitted two other men, Muhammad Ali and Mudassir Ali, and in 2006 Shia leader Sajid Naqvi and another man in the case.

Advocate Ilyas Siddiqui who represented Hammad Naqvi said that during an identification parade witnesses had identified his client as one of the assailants, but actually there were no witnesses to the incident.

The defence lawyer further said that the witnesses, who happened to be close relatives of the deceased, were there why they had failed to identify the body of Azam Tariq in the hospital.

It may be noted here that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Police Karachi had arrested Hammad Riaz Naqvi from the premises of the City court on February 2010 over his allegedly involved in the killing of outlawed terrorist organization Chief Azam Tariq. Chief of outlawed religious outfit Azam Tariq was killed by the unknown people in the year of 2003 near at toll plaza of Islamabad. His murder FIR No 199/03 under Sections 427/109, 148/149, 302/324, 67 ATA was registered at the Golra police station against the Hammad Naqvi and his accomplices. Syed Hammad Riaz Naqvi, was arrested in the premises of the City Courts, Karachi when he went there for a hearing. Hammad, a resident of Malir, was arrested in different cases of sectarian violence in 2007; however he was bailed in 2009 and was currently facing several trials in the court. The accused man, who was declared an absconder by the court, was continuously attending the hearing of the court in Karachi.
