According to the Shiite News Monitoring Desk, a local Shia website of Pakistan revealed that with the credible sources that the target of these suicide bombers were the Madina-tul-ilm Mosque situated at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi.

The website claims that the police have arrested number of terrorists linked with the suicide bombers killed in the explosion from the nearby Wahabi seminary situated at Abul Hassan Isphani Road. The seminary was involved in provoking the sectarian hatred among the peaceful Sunni and Shia Muslims and it was the training center of the armed terrorists of Nasabi-Wahabi terrorists organization.

The Incident

It may be noted here that the two suspected bombers were killed when an explosives-rigged motorbike they were riding skidded and exploded with a huge bang in a street off Abul Hasan Ispahani Road on Tuesday 30th August, police said.

The incident caused panic and fear in the residential and commercial neighbourhood but police said it ‘saved’ the city from a ‘major terrorism activity of the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr’.

“The two riders were not going too fast but it was due to the rain-soaked road that their motorbike skidded while taking a turn,” Gulshan-i-Iqbal SP Waqar Mullan said.

“The accident, we think, triggered the explosives they were carrying.”

The blast left residents of housing societies in Scheme 33 and Gulshan-i-Iqbal block 4 scared.

A large number of people came out of their homes and shops situated in the area and gathered at the blast site, which was later cordoned off by heavy contingents of police and Rangers.

Blood and human flesh were seen splattered all around and also over the concrete structures along the street.

The blast destroyed the motorbike though the police investigators claimed to have found some clues to the identity of the riders.

“A number plate, which has been found, indicates that the motorbike was registered in the interior of Sindh. Besides, a few pages of a contact diary containing some phone numbers and names have been found,” disclosed an investigator who had

thoroughly examined the blast site.

The police said the head and limbs of one of the two suspected attackers, most probably the pillion rider, were found at the site.

“No body parts of the suspect who was riding the bike were found. The body parts of the pillion rider, however, can help investigators determine his identity, which has not yet been established,” said SP Mullan.

Weight of explosive

According to initial police estimates, the explosive weighed between 3.5 and four kilos. Efforts are being made to determine the type of the substance.

The SP said: “The bomb disposal unit has collected samples from the scene and will definitely come up with final findings, which will include chemical and other relevant information.”
