British police have detained several people after they staged a protest in and around the premises of UAV Engines in Lichfield, a subsidiary of Israeli arms company Elbit systems, near Birmingham.

A group of pro-Palestinian activists from the London Palestine Action network has staged a 48-hour protest at the factory that supplies engines for drones used by the Israeli regime’s army in its brutal offensives against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip and elsewhere in the occupied territories.

The activists called for the permanent closure of the factory and demanded that the UK government end all forms of military cooperation with the Israeli regime.

According to Staffordshire police one man has been charged and eight others remained in custody following a police crackdown on the protesters.

Activists from the London Palestine Action group had occupied the premises of UAV Engines in Lichfield since Tuesday.

The factory has been exporting drone engines to Israel since 2010.

The UK government has been accused of providing direct support to Israel by exporting drone components as well as other weapons to the Tel Aviv regime.
