Israel says it has decided to prevent as many as 500 Palestinians from the blockaded Gaza Strip from entering East al-Quds (Jerusalem) to participate in Friday prayers there.

A spokesman for the Israeli regime said on Wednesday that Tel Aviv has decided to revoke the permits of the Palestinian worshipers because of alleged rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave.

In a similar move, Israel had previously revoked the permits of as many as 500 Palestinian worshipers from the occupied West Bank who intended to participate in Friday prayers.

Early on Wednesday, Israeli warplanes conducted a number of airstrikes on an area in the north of the besieged Gaza Strip. The attacks on the coastal enclave followed reports of an alleged rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.

The Tel Aviv regime has pounded several parts across the blockaded area under different pretexts.

On May 27, the Israeli air force carried out similar attacks on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, as well as on Rafah and Khan Younis.

Israel has imposed a blockade on the coastal Palestinian territory since June 2007, which has resulted in a drop in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.

Israel also launched a 50-day war on the besieged area in early July 2014, killing over 2,200 Palestinians, including 577 children. Over 11,100 others, including 3,374 children, 2,088 women and 410 elderly people, were also injured in the Israeli assaults, which ended in late August.
