Leonid Reshetnikov, a senior advisor to the Russian president, underlined that the Saudi-led war against the Yemeni people shouldn’t be allowed to end up in victory.

"One of the US allies, namely Saudi Arabia, plays a very negative role in Yemen and we try to put pressure on Riyadh in our relations with them," Reshetnikov said in a joint press conference with Head of Iran's Strategic Foreign Relations Council and former Foreign Minister Seyed Kamal Kharrazi in Tehran on Monday.

"We shouldn’t allow Saudi Arabia and its allies to break the popular resistance in Yemen," he added.

He also criticized the Saudis' negative role in Syria.

Both Tehran and Moscow from the very first days of the escalation of the crises in Syria and Yemen have voiced their full support for the diplomatic settlement of such disputes.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov in a phone conversation in May called for a political solution to the crises in Yemen and Syria based on broad national dialogue.

"Moscow and Tehran confirmed a common stance that increased efforts are needed to find a political solution to the conflicts in Syria and Yemen in the ways of establishing an inclusive national dialogue involving all the political and ethnic and religious forces of these countries," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement at the time.

The statement added that the two diplomats also stressed the importance of maintaining a regular Iranian-Russian dialogue on the whole range of issues in the Middle East.

Amir Abdollahian and Bogdanov also demanded an immediate halt to the Saudi military attacks against Yemen.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 187 days now to restore power to Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 6,274 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Hadi stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Houthi movement.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
