“Riyadh is attempting to create space for its proxy army of al-Qaeda, particularly al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in the region. The Saudi kingdom does not want democracy for Yemen. Yemeni people are suffering from the destruction of the poor infrastructure of their impoverished country as a result of the Saudi airstrikes.”

These views were expressed by Eric Draitser, the founder of stopimperialism.com, in New York and Baraa Shiban, with the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference, in London, while giving talking to the international media.

Draitser says what the Saudis have achieved on the ground has been the destruction of Yemen’s infrastructure. He adds that the Yemeni people are suffering from the destruction of the poor infrastructure of their impoverished country as a result of the Saudi airstrikes.

He says Riyadh is attempting to create space for its proxy army of al-Qaeda, particularly al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in the region.

The government of fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was a proxy government of the United States and Saudi Arabia, therefore, they are trying to bring him back to power in Yemen, Draitser says.

Shiban, for his part, says the Saudi kingdom does not want democracy for Yemen, but Riyadh might want stability for Yemen because the impoverished country has huge borders with Saudi Arabia, and instability in Yemen will affect the Saudis.
