Saudi warplanes launched eight air raids on residential areas in the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada, killing and injuring scores of civilians.

On Monday, Saudi fighter jets pounded civilian areas in the area of Wadi Khalf in al-Dhaher border district in Sa’ada, leaving large groups of people under the rubble of their flattened homes, Yemen’s official Saba news agency reported.

The kingdom’s jets also targeted al-Thu’aban area in Baqem border district in the province with two raids, causing huge damage to citizens’ houses and their properties.

In retaliation to the deadly attacks, Yemen’s army and popular committees shelled the position of Saudi-backed mercenaries in the area of Thubab in the southwestern province of Taiz, destroying five of their vehicles.

Two other vehicles belonging to the militants were destroyed by the army and popular forces in al-Saiman hill in the area.

The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in the past year and a half in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Some 11,000 Yemenis, including women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
