bahrain childernThe Public Prosecution Office in Bahrain has ordered for the detention of two children, Qassim Mohammed and Mohammed Ahmed. The 12 year olds are facing charges of assembling.

Amnesty International has issued a number of statements about the tens of children

who have been subjected to torture and degrading and ill-treatment in Bahraini jails.

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society said the regime’s targeting of children is a clear indicator of its approach to continue the repression against the people under legal cover.

The arrest of the two children comes just days after the UN’s Human Rights Council had criticized Bahrain for arresting children, Al Wefaq said. “Bahrain needs a real and genuine political project to end the political crisis rather than repressive measures against children”, Al Wefaq added.

A few days ago, the Bahrain Observatory for Human Rights filed a complaint to the UN High Commissioner’s Special Rapporteur of children about the detention and pursuit of children and the use of the “terror-law” to criminalize their participation in peaceful protests and events.

The Observatory also complained that lawyers are been prevented from reaching the detained children during interrogation, which is a clear violation of the Convention on the Rights of a Child.
