protest bahrainAl Wefaq National Islamic Society is greatly concerned over the condition of jailed opposition figure Hasan Mushaima who has been denied medical care since September 2012. This practice is considered a deliberate attempt to harm Mr. Mushaima by

neglecting his health condition. The Authority in Bahrain is legally and morally responsible for the consequences of its denial of medical care as a fundamental right of Mr. Mushaima and all prisoners.

The Bahraini Authority has kept silent in regards to the prisoners’ denial of medical care and treatment. At the same time, it takes advantage of the prisoners’ humanitarian needs to punish them for their political opinions. The jailed opposition figures are prisoners of conscience and must be released as recommended by the Independent Commission of Inquiry report.

Medical care and treatment is a humanitarian right that is not to be used in political settling and blackmail. Such measure is considered a serious violation of rights and indicates the risky situation of prisoners in Bahrain.

The Authority’s denial of medical care to prisoners had previously resulted in the death of Jaffar Durazi on 26th January 2014, and Mohammed Mushaima on 2nd October 2012. Other prisoners, like Ahmed Magabi, are suffering from health complications due to denial of medical care. Mr. Magabi was subjected to severe and dirty torture which resulted in infections that could develop into cancer cells. Yet, he has been denied medical treatment for 3 years now while in prison.
