The Bahrain Observatory for Human Rights (BOHR) delegation to Geneva held a press conference on Tuesday evening in conjunction with the 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council to comment on the human rights developments in Bahrain. The delegation addressed the High Commissioner for Human Rights stressing the importance of the visit of the Special Rapporteur, Mr Juan Mendez, on Torture to Manama, and which has been postponed several times in attempt to hide the ongoing human rights violations from the international community.

The delegation mentioned that Bahrain could be put on the HRC’s agenda and face the Council’s condemnation and mandatory resolutions or assignment of a Special Rapporteur to Bahrain in the coming year.
“Around 3000 Bahraini citizens are locked up in arbitrary detention, but this number has increased during the past 6 months by 878″, said member of BOHR Yousif Rabea, adding, “this was in conjunction with 1098 illegal home raids and 1660 collective punishments alongside the revocation of citizenships of dissidents”.
Commenting on the Authority’s attempts to suspend anti-government political societies, Hadi Almusawi, also a member of the BOHR, said, “This decision will not reverse the popular position to boycott the parliamentary elections”.
