An Iranian deputy foreign minister has noted that cooperation among regional countries is the best way to fight terrorism and other common threats.

“The countries of the region are currently facing common threats like terrorism and tribalistic approaches,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the Omani capital Muscat on Tuesday, during a meeting with the Sultanate’s Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said.

The Iranian official noted that the only way to fight the threats “is continuous cooperation and consultation among regional countries.”

He put emphasis on respect for protecting sovereignty, independence, national unity, and territorial integrity of all the countries in the region, including Iraq and Syria.

“Measures taken against the said principles in the name of fighting terrorism and the ISIL [Takfiri group], run counter to the region’s peace, stability, and security,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

The Iranian official also voiced satisfaction with the developing trend of the relations between Tehran and Muscat, and submitted to the Omani official an invitation from Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.

The Omani official, for his part, expressed gratitude for the invitation, referring to the Islamic Republic’s positive and constructive position in contributing to the region’s peace and stability.
