shiitenews Three Grand Shia Clerics to Spend One Third of Imam s Share on Helping Somali VictimsThree Islamic Jurisprudents gave permission to their followers to spend one third of Imam’s share (one sixth of their Khums) on helping the victims of famine in Somalia.

Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaigani, in a statement allowed the Iranian nation to give one third of Imam’s right to people in Somali. 

“[The reports and] Pictures of Muslims starving in Somali [which has spread all across the world] make any human being sad,” the ayatollah said in his statement. 

The grand Ayatollah pointed to one of the main duties of Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan which is giving food to needy people and underlined, “if all Muslims did their duty, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, such disaster would have not happened for these people.” 

“Today all Muslims should help their brothers and sisters, and do their best to save them,” Golpaigani added. 

Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani also called on all world Muslims to assist “the oppressed” people of Somalia in the holy fasting month of Ramadan, as the African country is struggling with severe drought and famine. 

Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani has voiced his sorrow over the natural disaster in the Muslim country of Somalia and urged Muslims all across the world to perform their “Islamic duty” and rush to assist their Muslim brothers and sisters in Ramadan which is the month of the blessing of the Lord and Muslims are encouraged to feed the needy people. 

Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi urged the Islamic community to aid famine victims in Africa. 

“Famine and drought are taking the lives of many Muslims in Somalia, in such situation, it is obligatory for all Muslims to provide help and assistance for them immediately,” the grand Ayatollah underlined. 

“It contradicts the Islamic glory and brotherhood if Muslims stand beside, waiting for the others to help their Muslim brothers,” Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi mentioned. 

He went on,” Although there are many deprived people in all Muslim countries but the situation in Somalia is more painful and serious that is not comparable to our fellow countrymen.” 

The three mentioned Islamic Jurisprudent gave the green light to allocate one third of the “Imam share” [a portion allocated to jurisprudents as charity to help the poor] to the famine-hit people in Somalia.
