Iran-borderguards-IraqborderUnknown gunmen have killed at least three Iranian security forces on the western border with Iraq, a local security official says.

The forces were on patrol in Solas Babajani town in Kermanshah Province when they came under attack by the assailants Tuesday night, Shahriar Heidari said on Wednesday.

A border checkpoint commander and his deputy were among those killed, the provincial official added.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. In the meantime, police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

Meanwhile, a security source told Mehr news agency that the killing of the three security forces has nothing to do with Takfiri terrorists.

The same source added that no Takfiri militants have entered Iran so far.

Since June 10, Iraq has been witnessing a fresh wave of violence fueled by the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorists. The militants have overrun most of one province and parts of three others north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

In the past, sporadic clashes have taken place between Iranian troops and terrorist groups in western Iran near the border with Iraq.
